My First Online Income

Without further ado, let’s start the story.

My first online income was coming from “ads selling programs”. At that time, I just started my personal finance blog and I was selling some ads space from my blog.

I still remembered it was a booming time for blogging. At that time, blogging was getting popular and more and more people start to blog. Even today blogging is still the hottest way to build a site on the Internet.

One day, I came across the launching of a program called text link ads. It is an online marketplace for both advertisers and publishers like me. I gave it a try. 2 weeks later, I sold 4 text link ads on my blog and made my first $29 from the Internet. It was my first online income and this has proven to me that we can really make money online.

After that my income kept shooting up until I make over $150 per month by selling link ads on my blog. I was so happy on this because finally I knew a ways to make extra money online. However, today, advertising income is not my main income that lets me making $1000 extra per month. Let me tell you the reasons.

If you want to make money in this way, first you have to start a web site and make it as popular as possible. It is not necessary a blog. It can be a simple web site but it must be popular and hot. Advertisers usually make decision based on your site’s popularity and traffics. Therefore your site must be high in PR, Alexa and other relevant ranking. You may not imagine how hard it is to get higher ranking for your sites. In my case, the average ratio between advertisers payment and visitors is $20 :500. That’s mean I will get $20 for every 500 visitors I have. The payout is very low for me. Based on the ratio, if I want to make $1000, I must bring 25000 of visitors to my blog. Yes, there are many bloggers can generate this kind of traffics. However, I’m not one of them…

The Next Stage…

I didn’t satisfy with the income that I make from advertising. So I decided to give a try on another popular way to make money - Google Adsense.

Adsense is a popular way to make money online. They are ads that you can put on your sites and you get paid every time people click on it. This is also why we also call Adsense as Pay-Per-Click Program.

I registered an account and put some ads on my blog. For the first 3 months, I really get a tremendous increase on my online income. My blog can easily generate $500 or more per month for me. I was so excited that I had boosted my online income. Besides that my Adsense income was increasing because I kept doing the optimization to increase the click through rate.

However, after 3 months, Google changed their policy on Adsense. Guess what, my Adsense income had dropped tremendously until today it is really hard for me to generate more than $200. My blog’s traffic has increased though.

Yes, no doubt Adsense is a good way to make money online. But it is not easy and secure. First of all, we don’t have the right to control their policy. If they make any changes, our income will be infected. After that, it is too popular until even a small child knows how Adsense looks like. This will greatly reduce the chances people will click on the ads. Except you have a very, very targeted market for your sites then only the visitors will click on the Ads for more information. At this moment, I don’t have this ability to accomplish this task yet.

Finally I Found the Key

What I mentioned just now are some good ways to make extra money online. You can really make money from them. They are honest and true ways to make money online. Their payment is good. In fact, I won’t introduce any dishonest program to you.

However, they are not the best ways for me. I want some thing that have higher payout that can let me make more extra money.
